Meet the Candidates: Jesse Nathanson

Jesse Nathanson, Accounting

Desired position in Student Government:

SYMSSC President

Bio:

I am a senior pursuing a degree in accounting in Sy Syms School of Business. I currently live in an apartment in the heights with my wife, but I'm originally from Toronto, Canada and so, naturally I am an avid Leafs fan. I have spent three wonderful years on campus at YU having held diverse leadership positions including, Accounting and Entrepreneurship Club President, Chair of the 2012 & 2013 SYMS Gala Dinner and SYMSSC President. I look forward to doing my part to make next year even more spectacular for the student body.

Why are you running for this position on student council?

The presidency of SYMSSC is not about me – it’s about you. There is more progress to be made to further develop and enhance the campus experience for SYMS students. I believe I am the best equipped candidate to ensure this progress and to continue the growth of programming and quality of student services for SYMS.

What experience do you bring to this position?

As the incumbent SYMSSC president, I have already had the opportunity to spend a year learning the ropes for how to most effectively advocate for SYMS students.  This experience would carry over into a second term, allowing me to hit the ground running and waste no time transitioning into the role.  I have been intimately involved in the formation of the YU Store on campus, programming the SYMS dinner, the Hannukah Concert, and have promoted additional funding for student events. I have built relationships within the YU family that enable me to be successful working for the SYMS student body. Next year, with my reduced workload, I will be able to commit an even greater amount of my time to my fellow students. I hope to create more networking opportunities for our students to help everyone get jobs, a place for every student to get involved in our school, better programming and, of course, more awesome swag!

What, if any, other leadership commitments are you taking on next year?

None.

How many credits do you plan on taking next semester?

14

At YU, I...

I live within five blocks of the YC campus, I stay in Washington Heights at least two shabbatot a month, I have not faced any disciplinary action from Yeshiva University, I do not have a criminal record nor have I been arrested

Why should students vote for you over any other candidate?

I was SYMSSC President this past year, I think we had a great year, and I know we can make next year even better! I know how to get things done and am motivated to work for you, again, as SYMSSC President.
